Uncontested Divorces

An Uncontested Divorce is also known as a Bilateral Divorce. It is an option where both parties are in complete agreement as to their marital assets, child custody, child support and other marital issues. An uncontested divorce allows the parties to sign a Marital Settlement Agreement, which formulates the parties’ wishes, that is filed with the Circuit Court in the county where you live.

The procedure for completing an uncontested divorce is much simpler than most realize. You and your spouse, together or on separate occasions, will meet with the attorney and discuss your wishes. Once you have a meeting of the minds, your agreement will be drafted, both parties will sign and notarize the agreement and the agreement and supporting documentation will be filed with the Court, a judge will then review the content and sign a Final Decree of Divorce dissolving the marital relationship between the parties.
